The winger moved north to Rangers from Norwich City in January, and after a shakey start to his life at the Glasgow club, Middleton has impressed under the tutelage of new manager Steven Gerrard.

The announcement follows various other players signing their long-term future to Ibrox, after forward Alfredo Morelos and captain James Tavernier signed new deals earlier this campaign.

18 year old Middleton made his 'Gers' debut in the Europa League against FK Shkupi in July and has gone on to score three goals in 12 appearances so far this season.

He scored his first league goal for Rangers in their 4-0 win over Dundee in September, and was on target twice as his side breezed past Ayr United in the Betfred cup quarter-finals.

Glasgow native Middleton has also represented Scotland men's national team at all youth levels, appearing in the four most recent matches of the U21 squad.

Middleton posted a message on his social media page confirming the news. The post read as follows:'I am absolutely delighted to have signed a new contract with this club today. I’m loving every moment and cannot wait for the future.'

He also spoke to Ranger's club TV channel, stating: "“I couldn’t have asked for much more. From day one, going away on pre-season and training, and then from there going in to games, I have loved every minute."
