Flamengo failed to clinch the Recopa title on Thursday, after being defeated by Lanus 3-2 at the Maracana. Following their 1-0 victory in the first leg in Argentina, the visiting side secured the tie with a 4-2 aggregate score.

As a result, Lanus lifted the competition's unprecedented trophy. The goals were scored by De Arrascaeta and Jorginho, both from penalties for Flamengo, while Rodrigo Castillo, Jose Canale, and Dylan Aquino found the net for Lanus.

THE MATCH

Flamengo started the match with Gonzalo Plata playing further forward, supported by De Arrascaeta, Carrascal, and Lino completing the attack. The 'rubro-negro' side had their first chance in the fourth minute when Pulgar shot, forcing a good save from Losada. The Lanus goalkeeper also made a fine stop from a dangerous shot by Carrascal.

In the 28th minute, after a squandered counter-attack by Gonzalo Plata, Lanus capitalized on a Flamengo error to open the scoring. In the 71st minute, Paqueta attempted a first-time shot, but Losada made a good save.

In the 79th minute, De Arrascaeta produced a brilliant individual effort, dribbling past two defenders before being brought down inside the box. Jorginho stepped up to take the penalty and struck it down the middle, scoring the equalizer on aggregate and sending the tie into extra time.

'GRANATE' TIME

Flamengo started extra time controlling possession and exerting more offensive pressure. The team threatened several times, particularly with balls swung into the box. However, Lanus capitalized on a crucial defensive lapse. In the 116th minute, Jose Canale rose between Paqueta and Jorginho to head home the title-winning goal.

With Flamengo throwing men forward, Dylan Aquino capitalized on a counter-attack, exploiting the spaces left by the 'rubro-negra' defense. He rounded Rossi and slotted home to score the winning goal, sealing Lanus's title victory. The aggregate score stood at 4-2, marking the Argentine side's historic win and Flamengo's second runner-up finish of the year, following their defeat to Corinthians in the Supercopa do Brasil.
