The UK Gambling Commission has announced new rules requiring non-remote operators to immediately remove gaming machines from their premises when notified of compliance issues, effective 29 July 2026.
What Operators Need to KnowUnder the new requirements, operators must remove machines if the Commission determines that the manufacture, supply, installation, adaptation, maintenance or repair was:
Not carried out under a valid gaming machine technical operating licenceNon-compliant with other regulatory standardsWhile operators are already required to ensure machines comply with the Gambling Act 2005, the new rules create a streamlined process for the Commission to mandate swift removal of problem machines.
Part of Wider Gambling Act Review ImplementationThe announcement forms part of the UKGC's ongoing implementation of the 2023 Gambling Act Review White Paper. The Commission is continuing to analyse consultation responses and supplementary evidence, with remaining responses expected to be published in Summer 2026.
Operators should review their machine compliance procedures and supplier relationships ahead of the July deadline to ensure they can respond quickly to any Commission notifications.
