UK Q3 Data: Online Slots Hit Record High as Stake Limits Take Effect

The UK Gambling Commission has published Q3 2025-26 market data revealing significant shifts in gambling behaviour following the implementation of online slots stake limits earlier this year.

Online Slots Continue Record RunDespite the introduction of the £5 maximum stake limit in April 2025 (£2 for 18-24 year olds from May), online slots GGY reached £788 million in Q3 – a 10% increase year-on-year and a new dataset peak for the third consecutive quarter. Spin volume rose 7% to 25.7 billion, with average monthly active accounts up 5% to 4.6 million.

Session Duration Drops SignificantlyNotably, sessions lasting longer than one hour fell 16% to 8.9 million, with the proportion of extended sessions dropping from 6.2% to 4.4%. Average session length decreased by two minutes to 16 minutes, suggesting the safer gambling measures may be influencing player behaviour.

Betting Verticals Under PressureReal event betting took the biggest hit, with GGY down 18% to £530 million. Bet volume declined 6% while active accounts fell 7%. The Commission notes this reflects continued softening in the sports betting segment.

Retail betting premises also struggled, with GGY falling 7% to £549 million on largely flat bet volumes.

Overall Market PictureTotal online GGY for Q3 reached £1.5 billion, down 2% year-on-year despite a 6% increase in total bets and spins to 27.4 billion. Average monthly active accounts decreased 2% to 12.7 million.

The Commission cautions that this dataset may include free bets and bonuses and does not cover all operators, so direct comparisons with official industry statistics should be avoided.
