Spillemyndigheden Wins Second Consecutive IAGR Award for Youth Education

The Danish Gambling Authority (Spillemyndigheden) has secured its second consecutive international award from the International Association of Gaming Regulators (IAGR), this time for its educational programme targeting secondary school students.

Programme Reaches Over 200 SchoolsSince launching in 2022, the regulator has delivered free presentations to more than 200 secondary schools across Denmark. The sessions are conducted by an eight-member team who visit individual classrooms, using a real roulette table to demonstrate how games of chance operate.

"Gambling plays a big role in many schools. In some classrooms, gambling has almost become part of the everyday culture," said Director Anders Dorph. "It distracts from learning and can lead to addiction."

Measurable Attitude ShiftsImpact surveys conducted before and three months after school visits show significant changes in student attitudes:

Students gambling "to win money" dropped from 64% to 54%Those viewing gambling as entertainment increased from 70% to 87%The IAGR jury praised the programme for its "interactive, school-based education programme that engages young people with practical demonstrations and surveys evidencing shifts away from gambling 'to make money' towards safer play."

Industry ImplicationsThe programme represents a proactive regulatory approach to youth gambling prevention, focusing on education rather than prohibition. Schools, sports clubs, and other organisations can book sessions directly through the Spillemyndigheden website.

Last year, the Danish regulator won the same award for its "One-Armed Bandit" campaign, establishing Denmark as a leader in responsible gambling initiatives among the IAGR's 81 member authorities.
