Spain's DGOJ Unveils Algorithm to Boost Problem Gambling Detection by 10%

Spain's Directorate General for Gambling Regulation (DGOJ) has unveiled a new algorithm designed to identify at-risk gambling behavior, claiming it could increase detection rates by up to 10 percentage points compared to current methods.

Real Data, Real ResultsThe algorithm, presented at the I International Gambling Congress in Madrid, represents a significant departure from existing approaches. For the first time, the tool is built using microdata from the actual platform behavior of individuals medically diagnosed with gambling disorder.

Currently, operators develop their own detection mechanisms independently, with no standardized tools or benchmarks for effectiveness. The DGOJ estimates current detection rates sit at approximately 3% of active players—a figure the new algorithm aims to dramatically improve.
