Cyprus Gaming Authority Warns of Surge in Illegal Online Casino Scams

The Cyprus Gaming and Casino Supervision Authority (CGC) has identified a significant uptick in illegal websites and deceptive advertisements promoting online casino services in the Republic of Cyprus.

According to the regulator, some of these advertisements constitute organized fraud, falsely referencing Cyprus's licensed casino to mislead citizens and extract money or personal data.

Cypriot casinos operate exclusively as land-based establishmentsNo form of online casino gambling is permitted in the Republic of CyprusAny website claiming to offer "online casino from Cyprus" or presenting itself as "the official Cypriot casino" is operating illegallyRisks of Illegal Online GamblingThe authority highlighted significant risks associated with participating in unlicensed online casinos, including lack of protection for winnings and deposits, personal data vulnerabilities, insecure financial transactions, absence of responsible gambling measures, potential access by minors, and no avenue for filing complaints.

Licensed OperationsThe CGC confirmed that the only licensed casino operation in Cyprus is the Integrated Casino Resort (ICR) Cyprus, along with its satellite facilities in Nicosia, Famagusta, and Paphos—all operating exclusively as land-based venues.

The authority is working with relevant agencies to combat illegal online gambling activities and encourages the public to report suspicious cases to the CGC or the Cyprus Police Cybercrime Subdivision.
