Betfred Hit with £825,000 Fine for AML and Safer Gambling Failures

Done Brothers (Cash Betting) Limited, which operates betting shops under the Betfred brand, has been fined £825,000 by the UK Gambling Commission following a 2024 compliance assessment that uncovered significant failings in anti-money laundering (AML) and safer gambling controls.

In addition to the financial penalty, the operator will receive a formal warning and must undergo a third-party audit to verify effective implementation of its AML and responsible gambling policies.

UKGC Director of Enforcement John Pierce noted that while the failings were "predominantly technical breaches," they remained unacceptable, with thresholds "appearing too high and insufficiently risk based." The Commission acknowledged improvements already made by the operator since the assessment.
